The Collection Galleries

August 11, 2011 - December 31, 2016 - In this beautifully designed exhibition, the Ackland presents a powerful and stimulating selection of over 260 works from its extensive permanent collection. A sequence of five galleries showcases The Western Tradition, from the Ancient Mediterranean world to twentieth-century European and American art. The Museum’s significant holdings of Asian art are presented in two regionally-based galleries: “Art from China and Japan” and “Art from Southern and Western Asia,” which includes a small selection of Islamic art. A gallery of art from West Africa completes the current overview.
