No Boundaries: Aboriginal Australian Contemporary Abstract Painting

June 9 - August 14, 2016 - This exhibition presents a varied and compelling selection of paintings by nine prominent Indigenous artists from Australia’s Western desert.  The innovative artists produce works of beauty and subtlety that express ancestral truths, kinships, and views about the natural world, record personal histories, and challenge assumptions about abstraction in the art of our time. The exhibition and accompanying catalogue encourage visitors to consider these artists’ diverse rationales for taking up painting as elders in their communities, and examine the works’ simultaneous presentation and guardianship of cultural values.
